Brijesh Doshi / Gandhinagar: Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for March 1 in Gujarat. Then today was the last day to subscribe. The time for filling up forms for Rajya Sabha elections is over. But no form from Congress was filled. Then both the BJP candidates will be uncontested. After verification of the candidates' forms, Ram Mokria and Dinesh Prajapati will be declared the winners. Now these two candidates will go to Rajya Sabha unopposed. At the same time, the BJP's strength in the Rajya Sabha will increase.
There will be 8 BJP MPs in the Rajya Sabha
Gujarat has a total of 11 seats in the Rajya Sabha, of which the BJP currently holds the highest number of 7 seats, while the Congress currently holds the remaining seats. From the BJP, Parsotam Rupala, Mansukh Mandvia, Narhari Amin, Abhay Bhardwaj, Ramila Bara, Dr Jayashankar and Jugalji Thakor are Rajya Sabha MPs. From the Congress, Shaktisinh Gohil, Amiben Yagnik, Naransinh Rathwa, Ahmed Patel were Rajya Sabha MPs, out of which BJP Rajya Sabha MP Abhay Bhardwaj and Congress MP Ahmed Patel passed away recently. Then both the candidates will be uncontested and the BJP will have 8 seats. So there will be 3 Congress MPs.
Congress was determined not to announce a candidate
No candidates were announced by Congress till noon. It was clear that the Congress would not field a candidate as it had no hope of winning the Rajya Sabha elections. This is because a separate manifesto has been issued instead of one for the Rajya Sabha elections. So Congress does not have enough legislators to win. Thus, the Congress has lost. So it was discussed that he would not announce the candidates. If the Congress does not announce a candidate, both the BJP candidates will be uncontested winners. Voting will take place on March 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The counting of votes will take place on March 1 at 5 pm.
BJP's Rajya Sabha candidates, led by Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, filled the forms. Rambhai Mokria and Dinesh Prajapati registered their candidacies as Rajya Sabha members. BJP president CR Patil and senior party leaders were also present while filling up the nomination forms. However, the Congress has not announced its candidates as there are separate notification of elections. Dinesh Prajapati has nominated Ahmed Patel for the vacant seat. However, Rambhai Mokria has nominated Abhaybhai for the vacant seat.
